Description
Most Photographed House in Africa The African Heritage House overlooking the Nairobi National Park is described by the Architectural Digest as "an architecture arising from the serene Kenyan plain like an outcropping of earth, a vision of usefulness informed by the African genius for decoration" .Inside one journeys through a spectrum of African textiles, masks, art, artifacts, crafts, books and photographs. Designed by American Alan Donovan, co-founder of the African Heritage, Africa's first Pan African Gallery, the house is a combination of the mud architecture from across Africa.
Tours of African Heritage commence with coffee or tea at the private train stop overlooking the Nairobi National Park with a view of the Ngong Hills in the distance. Guided tours start 10am. The house tour is 2 hours (so much art to see) and covers all the rooms. Guests are then taken around the pool and grounds, including the famous “Wedding Tree” where couples get married. The tour includes the sculpture garden at the poolside and then continues through the four floors of African Heritage House , ending on the rooftop lookout with a breathtaking overview of the Nairobi National Park and its surroundings.
